Syria, Iran and the Future

Iran and Damascus... The bible prophecies in Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49 that in the last days Damascus will be destroyed. Iran is continuing it’s nuclear enrichment program while contemptuously thumbing it’s nose at the rest of the world. The West is so fearful of a confrontation between Israel and Iran that they result to fabricating statements from Iran in order to try to stave off action by Israel. At the same time the Assad regime in Syria is butchering it’s own citizens causing the world to call for military action to remove Assad and his cronies from power.

Conflict between Israel and much of the Middle East is inevitable. The bible clearly indicates in Ezekiel 38 that Iran, Turkey and Russia will unite and attack Israel. This attack will be stopped and the armies of the attackers destroyed in a way that will leave no doubt in the eyes of the world that Israel is protected by God Himself. It will be God’s way, in these last days, of declaring to the world that Israel is His chosen people and that He does not sleep!

In the light of this it is interesting to consider the prophecies in Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49 that discuss the fall of Damascus. With the recent atrocities by the Assad regime, including the massacre of civilians and the use of children as human shields, combined with the growing anger of the West it appears conflict there is unavoidable.

Iran and it’s nuclear plants has been the most likely candidate for conflict in the region. Iran and Russia are allied economically and militarily. Russia is also similarly allied with Syria. Now, with Israel leading the offensive against the Assad regime and his (Assad’s) lack of concern for his own people much less for what the world thinks one wonders if Syria might be spark that ignites the Ezekiel 38 conflict.

It is not for us to know until it happens. Nevertheless, we are called to be watchful redeeming the time (Ephesians 5, 16). Whatever the case, Iran, Syria or some other unforeseen conflict, we know that the world has never before been in a state where all of the regions and countries were positioned to exactly fulfill prophecy. Since 1948 when Israel once again became the Jewish homeland the world has been poised for the onset of the Tribulation. Now, with air travel, satellites, global communications, nuclear weapons, RFID, and the political and military alignment of the countries of the world, all the pieces are in place.

More than ever we must be on guard, going about God’s business for indeed the time is short. Soon, the Rapture and then the world will know what we know already. That indeed, God does not sleep!
