Why the Silence?

In the past weeks credible information has come to light that our government, specifically the Obama Administration, has given high level security clearance to an individual with close ties to various Islamic Terrorist groups and Militant Anti-American interests.

Five of our elected representatives have stepped forward calling for an investigation, not to prosecute or remove this individual from office, but simply to ascertain whether or not these ties to various groups might potentially compromise her ability to place the interests of this nation ahead of any others.

Specifically I wish to refer to Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Huma Abedin. Ms. Abedin, who has close personal and family ties to The Muslim Brotherhood, The Muslim Sisterhood, Al Qaeda and various other groups and individuals who are proven enemies of The United States, Israel and the West holds a position of influence in the highest levels of our government and is cleared to access top secret information. This is not conjecture or idle speculation. Rather, it is public information available to anyone with an internet connection. Rather than list all of the evidence of Abedin’s connections to these groups I will refer you to this link where you can verify these connections for yourself. I suggest you take the time to read the entire document. CNN and others have gone out of their way to discredit the author, Mr. Shoebat. That in itself is of interest to me. What is even more interesting is how they can ignore the exhaustive documentation Mr. Shoebat provides regarding Ms. Abedin’s personal connections and, of more concern, how our elected representatives can ignore it as well.

This brings me to my question regarding the issue of Ms. Abedin, a question which I find extremely important: Why the Silence?

A woman with confirmed ties to individuals and groups with known links to terrorism and militant anti-American activities has been issued a Top Secret security clearance and works in the highest levels of our government. How can that be? Just as importantly, why is it that only five of our elected representatives are sounding the alarm and why are they being excoriated for doing so?

Anyone seeking a government security clearance is put through an exhaustive background check and investigation. Any ties to groups or individuals which potentially could cause the person applying for the clearance to be compromised will result in the clearance being refused. This is not an indictment of the person’s character or patriotism. Instead, it is insurance that minimizes the chance that the person will be put in a position of conflicting interests such as those of our National Security versus those of Faith, Family or Friends. A person with close ties to groups like The Muslim Brotherhood and other militant Islamic groups through members of their immediate family is, in my estimation, at tremendous risk of being compromised.

Some may argue that the reason there is little interest in the issue of Ms. Abedin is simply because the agencies responsible for vetting her for a security clearance found no cause for alarm in her associations with these individuals and groups. I take issue with this. I linked to documentation (above) of Ms. Abedin’s connections with questionable groups and individuals. Let me highlight just two of them.

A)    Ms. Abedin’s brother, Hassan has close ties to Muslim Brotherhood spiritual head and  its  international liaison Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, as well as with Abdullah Omar Naseef, the founder of “Rabita Trust”,  a  Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity.

B)    Ms. Abedin’s mother, Saleha, holds positions of influence in groups that operate under the auspices of the Muslim Brotherhood/Sisterhood. Interestingly the web site indicating one of her positions with the group (IICWC) was removed, however a screen capture made prior to the alteration is available at this address. Ms. Abedin’s mother also has close associations with the same individuals as her brother, Hassan as well as with several leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood/Sisterhood.

These are just two of many links to enemies of this country by individuals close to Ms. Abedin. In my opinion, no one with this level of connectivity should have been issued a security clearance or offered a high level position and I question the extent to which she was vetted. The following is an excerpt from a State Department document listing reasons for denial of a security clearance:

NOTE: Underline Emphasis Added is Mine.

Guideline B:  Foreign Influence6. The Concern. Foreign contacts and interests may be a security concern if the individual has divided loyalties or foreign financial interests, may be manipulated or induced to help a foreign person, group, organization, or government in a way that is not in U.S. interests, or is vulnerable to pressure or coercioon by any foreign interest. Adjudication under this Guideline can and should consider the identity of the foreign country in which the foreign contact or financial interest is located, including, but not limited to, such considerations as whether the foreign country is known to target United States citizens to obtain protected information and/or is associated with a risk of terrorism.
7. Conditions that could raise a security concern and may be disqualifying include:
(a) contact with a foreign family member, business or professional associate, friend, or other person who is a citizen of or resident in a foreign country if that contact creates a heightened risk of foreign exploitation, inducement, manipulation, pressure, or coercion;
(b) connections to a foreign person, group, government, or country that create a potential conflict of interest between the individual's obligation to protect sensitive information or technology and the individual's desire to help a foreign person, group, or country by providing that information;

It does not surprise me that, in this Administration, an individual with such questionable ties holds such an influential position with access to critical National Security information. What I cannot fathom is why even conservative Republicans are silent on this important issue. There is obviously more at work here and while Mr. Shoebat might have questionable motives (And I am not so sure that is the case) his documentation is exhaustive and verifiable. The connections between Ms. Abedin and various groups with links to terrorism is undeniable. Why someone that is potentially such a security risk is still in such a critical position is something that should disturb every American. At the very least one would think that those representatives expressing concern would be provided with proof that Ms. Abedin was properly vetted thereby allaying their concerns – and the concerns of those of us who stay informed on such matters.

Which brings me full circle. I ask again: Why The Silence?
